Rozpad Sovětského svazu a událostí těsně předcházející rozpoutaly kromě jiných neméně důležitých procesů i vlnu etno-regionálních hnutí usilujících o vytvoření vlastního státu a vymanění se z uměle vytvořeného státu jakým byl Sovětský svaz. Jedním z těchto regionů je i Čečensko, kde krátká éra autoritativní vlády Džochara Dudajeva vedla k ruské invazi a tzv. první čečenské válce v letech 1994-1996. Poválečná léta byla ve znamení snahy o budování sekulárního státu s demokratickými institucemi, nicméně vlivem místních specifických podmínek, vysokého stupně kriminalizace, obecně zvýšenou mírou shovívavosti společnosti vůči násilí a v neposlední řadě také činnosti radikálně islamistických hnutí došlo k vnitřní destabilizaci a frakcionalizaci, které vyvrcholily druhou ruskou invazí v roce 1999 a tím ukončením faktické čečenské nezávislosti. Případ Čečenska je o to specifičtější, že od počátku 90.let docházelo k simultánnímu vývoji jak občanské, resp. světské, společnosti, tak náboženské obce, což přineslo úzké vazby mezi etno-regionálními a náboženskými požadavky. Následující text se zabývá právě činností a případnými vazbami nestátních aktérů, zejména pak organizované zločinu a místních náboženských komunit (virtů a později i wahhábistů) aktivních v meziválečném období.

Criminalization and Religious Radicalization in Chechnya as Two Main Streams of Development after 1996 and their Influence on Terrorism in Subsequent Conflict

The article deals with the disintegration and erosion of originally cohesive Chechen resistance movement during the First Chechen War and following inter-war period. According to the author, the main reasons of this process are criminality and religious fundamental radicalisation. They together produced inner confl icts between fi eld commanders; some of them attacked Russian security forces in neighbouring regions (Dagestan, Ingushetia), even after war had ended. Disintegration processes were encouraged by social deprivation after the first war, by strategical position of Chechnya in relation to smuggling drugs and weapons, stealing rude oil, and fi nally activities of foreign Islamic solidarity fi ghters. All those factors signifi cantly contributed to the outbreak of the Second Chechnya War.
